Projected Team Scoring

In cross country, a team's final, official, score cannot be determined until all runners have completed the race. Thus requiring everyone wait until the end of the race before scores are published. But in this digital age, there is no reason we can’t provide a predictive score that can project team scores and placements.

Other scoring apps may provide a "during race" projected team score, but only for teams whose first five runners have finished. Cross Country Scoreboard, however, projects a qualified team's score as soon as the first runner from a team has crossed. The xcscoreboard app does this by adding the individual score of team finishers with the best possible scores that could be achieved by the remaining runners on the team.

For example, let's say we have four teams, West High, Central High, East High, and Midvale where five (5) runners make up a full team. Furthermore, Midvale doesn't have enough registered runners to make up a full team. In this example, here is the order in which the finishers place and their respective points:

Following is the projected scoring that can be streamed to the online scoreboard (if enabled) after each finisher. All projected constituent scores are in RED. A team's "Projected Score" is the sum of each of the "Finisher Positions":

After the race is marked as complete, the scoreboard is calculated one last time using official scoring -- any red, projected, finishers are removed from the results.
